Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Australian Daybill Movie Poster (measures 15" x 40") (Learn More) The Thin Man, the classic 1934 W.S. Van Dyke (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) detective crime mystery romantic comedy melodrama ("Dashiell Hammet's Master Mystery Novel!"; "Based on the mystery novel by Dashiell Hammett"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; it was so successful that it spawned a series of sequels with "Thin Man" in their titles, even though the actual "thin man" from the first movie was the man who was killed!) starring William Powell (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; as the alcoholic ex-crook detective Nick Charles), Myrna Loy (as Nick's rich socialite wife Nora Charles, who helped solve crimes), Maureen O'Sullivan, Nat Pendleton, Minna Gombell, Asta (their dog, who became very popular!), Edward Brophy, Edward Ellis (as Clyde Wynant, the actual "thin man"!), and Henry Wadsworth NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Condition: very good. There was a 1" strip of some sort of tape across the back of the top of the poster and across the very bottom of the back of the poster. The tape was removed long ago, but it has discolored the area on the back of the poster and the removal of tape caused very slight surface paper loss from the back of the poster. The effect this has had on the front is that you can see where the tape was at the top quite clearly, because it was on blank white paper, but at the bottom of the poster you mostly just see the area in the white border where the tape was. If you look closely at the bottom 3/4" of the image you can see the slightest sign of where the tape was. There were also four pieces of clear tape on the top edge of the top blank border and there are two small areas of blank paper loss. There is light smudging in the blue area behind the top tagline. Other than the above defects, the daybill is in really wonderful condition (the paper is crisp, the colors are very bright, and there is not a pinhole or any sign of restoration anywhere on the poster)! Personally, I don't consider the defects very important at all, because they are basically in the blank areas and on the back of the poster (I guess each person has to decide for themselves!). What I am 100% sure of is that any talented restorer could back this poster (either linenback or paperback) and with little restoration, this great poster would look wonderful!
