An Original Vintage Magazine (measures 10 1/2" x 13 1/2" [27 x 34 cm]) (Learn More) Ken, a magazine that began publication on April 7, 1938. It appears that this was intended to be a magazine along the lines of Time Magazine, covering all political issues of the day, and being that it was 1938 and the world was on the verge of World War II, there are naturally quite a few articles about Germany and its aggression towards other countries. It was created by the publishers of Esquire magazine, and we know that it was published for at least a couple of years. If anyone knows more about this magazine, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Important Added Info: Note that we have provided a picture of the front cover of the magazine, a picture of the table of contents page, and a picture of one interior two-page spread (but we didn't make much effort to find the best ones!). These images should greatly help you judge the overall condition of the magazine, and the contents page lets you know exactly what articles and stories are contained in this particular issue. Please know that these magazines are sealed in bags and are ready for shipping, and we cannot answer any questions about them or look through them for you, so please bid (or do not bid) based on the images we have provided. Also, note that a knowledgeable collector says this magazine was... "A political bi-weekly started by David Smart who also founded Esquire. Arnold Gingrich edited Ken as well as Esquire and Coronet, all under Smart's stewardship. The political views expressed in Ken were strongly antitotalitarian and opposed radicalism on both the left and right. The first issue featured a small bit of advertising. When an interview with a prostitute appeared in a subsequent issue, the Catholic Church got all hot and bothered as did a few writers, among them, Ernest Hemingway, who then took a powder from contributing any further pieces to the magazine. The trouble over Ken affected sales of Esquire magazine and church groups then objected to any David Smart run magazines sold on the newsstands. Ken struggled along becoming a weekly with a cover price of ten cents. But despite Ken's attractive covers and commentary on the impending war in Europe and Asia the curtain fell on this short-lived magazine in 1939. " Condition: very good. Note that we have attempted to check to see if the magazine is complete and uncut, and we believe that it is. However, there is a slight possibility that we might have missed a small cut or a page that was neatly removed, and if that happens, you can return the magazine. We have solely provided an overall description of the condition of the magazine, but you can also refer to our super-sized images. Please bid (or not bid) based on that overall grade and by viewing the super-sized images. Learn More about condition grades
