An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Window Card Movie Poster (WC; measures 14" x 22" [36 x 56 cm]) (Learn More) Tillie and Gus, the 1933 Francis Martin huckster gambling boating screwball comedy (about an aging couple who have cheated many people as a team, and they are called to a place where a young couple and a baby are about to lose their boat, and after they are mistaken for missionaries, they decide to help the couple keep their boat and they do so by managing to win a boat race!) starring W.C. Fields (in the title role as Augustus 'Gus' Winterbottom), Alison Skipworth (in the title role as Tillie Winterbottom), Baby LeRoy (who was just a year old and in one of his first notable roles), Julie Bishop, and Phillip Trent NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this window card, and that example was trimmed, and it sold for $282! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a heavy paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the window card had been displayed and had faded somewhat. It also had pinholes, tears, and small paper loss around the edges, with some smudges and stains scattered throughout the card. It had been folded across the middle. Overall, the window card was in fair to good condition prior to paperbacking. The card was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects, and the restorer painted over all the blank white background areas, to "even them out", and the restorer did not address the fading.
