An Unfolded East German Special Poster (measures 22 1/2" x 32" [57 x 81 cm]) (Learn More)

Friedrich Engels 1882, the 1982 East German poster designed by Siegmar Forster, celebrating the life of Friedrich Engels and featuring a quote which translates to "These two great discoveries: the materialistic conception of history and the unveiling of the mystery of capitalist production impart added value, we owe to Marx. With them, socialism became a science". Friedrich Engels was a German philosopher, social scientist, journalist and businessman from the 1840s to the 1895. Engels founded Marxist theory together with Karl Marx and in 1845 published The Condition of the Working Class in England, based on personal observations and research in Manchester. In 1848, Engels co-authored The Communist Manifesto with Marx and also authored and co-authored (primarily with Marx) many other works. Later, Engels supported Marx financially to do research and write Das Kapital. After Marx's death, Engels edited the second and third volumes. Additionally, Engels organized Marx's notes on the Theories of Surplus Value, which he later published as the "fourth volume" of Capital.
Artist: Siegmar Forster
Important Added Info: Note that this poster has been mounted onto a "Chartex"-like material (we are not 100% certain it is Chartex, but if not, it is something very similar. Chartex is a backing paper that is a linen-like paper, similar to the material you line drawers with. It serves its function well in that the poster is preserved, which is why many restorers other than movie poster restorers use it, but it is very difficult to impossible to remove from the back of the poster. SO DO NOT BID ON THIS POSTER UNLESS YOU CAN ACCEPT THAT IT LIKELY CAN'T BE REMOVED FROM ITS BACKING, AND WILL NEED TO BE KEPT AS IT IS (although it is not harming the poster, and it enables it to be displayed).

Condition: very good.
