An Original Vintage 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm] News Photo (Learn More)

The Bat, the 1926 Roland West silent crime horror mystery melodrama ("A comedy mystery drama by Mary Roberts Rinehart and Avery Hopwood"; "From the stage play produced by Wagenhals and Kemper"; about a group of people who are guests of a mystery writer at a spooky old house, and a master criminal dresses up as a giant bat and terrorizes everyone!; to make the movie more "spooky", almost all the scenes were shot at night) starring Jack Pickford, Louise Fazenda, Eddie Gribbon, George Beranger, and Charles Herzinger. Note that the director virtually remade the movie in a sound version four years later as "The Bat Whispers".

Important Added Info: Note that this news photo does not show a scene from this 1926 movie. However, it is showing a "fad" that the movie created, which is for people in "Hollywood's motion picture colony" to have a "beauty patch" (which may be a temporary tattoo) attached to their back that is in the shape of a bat, and it was called "The Bat Back". The fad is modeled by Miss Anee Teeman, "a young Chicago prize beauty who recently began a screen career", but if she did, it was apparently under another name, because we could find no sign of her making movies. Also note that the snipe mentions that this movie (which would not be released for 4 more months) was "the first time in the history of motion pictures that plans have been withheld from the public of the cast or the cinema thriller", indicating that this "fad" began even before the movie began filming! Note that this news photo measures 8 1/4" x 10" [21 x 25 cm].
