An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 45 3/4" x 62 1/2" [116 x 159 cm]) (Learn More)

Salle de L'Etoile (literally translates to "Star Room"), the circa 1902 French stock poster used to promote attractions, concerts and movies shown at the theater at Place Badouilliere in St. Etienne, France, and featuring Leon Gabriel Louis Coulet art of a gorgeous angelic showgirl holding a staff with a star on top of it next to a running vintage film projector while a smiling audience sits below (most surviving posters from this very beginning of motion pictures merely advertised that they are showing motion pictures, and not WHAT they were showing, because movies were so new that simply going to one was an event in itself!). Certainly, in the case of this poster, the theater would either overprint the large right area with a list of what the current attractions were, or possibly attach a paper snipe to that area if they wanted to use it again for different movies. This poster is especially fascinating because it likely contains one of the first artwork depictions of a very early movie projector! If anyone knows more about this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
Artist: Leon Gabriel Louis Coulet
