A Stolen Life, the 1939 Paul Czinner English romantic good-twin-bad-twin life-swapping melodrama (this movie was later remade in 1946 featuring Bette Davis as the twins!; "Based on the novel by Karel J. Benes") starring Elisabeth Bergner (in a dual role as twins!), Michael Redgrave, Wilfrid Lawson, Mabel Terry-Lewis, and Richard Ainley

Artist: Boris Grinsson
Important Added Info: Note that this movie was released in France in 1939 and it had a French one-panel poster with art by Grinsson. Right after World War II, it was re-released in France in 1946 (it must have been popular!), and a completely different poster by Grinsson was created for that 1946 re-release, and that is the poster we are offering here.

What IS linenbacking? Learn More

Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and tiny bits of paper loss and separation on parts of some foldlines, and there had been some tape on the back of the folds. There were some scuff marks across the center of the man's face. The entire poster had darkened and it had pinholes around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was backed onto a thin linen with minor restoration, and after it was backed, it was roughly handled, and there are now many additional creases and scuffs scattered through the poster. If I owned this cool poster, I would surely have it removed from the old linen and properly re-backed, after which it would look great.
