A Linenbacked French Travel Poster (measures 24 1/2" x 38 3/4" [62 x 98 cm]) (Learn More) Paris, the 1936 French railroad railway train travel poster ("Ars Longa - Vita Brevis") encouraging people to use the French National Railways to visit Paris, France. Note that this poster features Marton artwork of famous art and architecture, including the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo. Artist: Marton Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had a long tear starting in the right border and running along the bottom of the word "PARIS" and then doubling back at the bottom of the beginning of the "A" and extending through the emblem and ending in the center of the bottom border. There is small paper loss at the left end of that long tear. There are some other tears and small paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone backed the poster onto linen with very little border, and they did the slightest restoration (see our image).
