Date Sold 9/15/2020 Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. 8 Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Cards (LCs; measure 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Notorious Sophie Lang, the 1934 Ralph Murphy jewel thief police crime romantic melodrama (based on the story by Frederick Irving Anderson; about a notorious female jewel thief who has spent years in England, but has now returned to New York City, and the detective who has been trying to trap her hires a handsome jewel thief to get the job done!) starring Gertrude Michael (in the title role as Sophie Lang), Paul Cavanagh, Arthur Byron, Alison Skipworth, and Leon Errol. Note that this was the first movie featuring this character (the other two were 1936's "The Return of Sophie Lang" and 1937's "Sophie Lang Goes West"). Note that Carole Lombard was Paramount's first choice to play the lead role, but she turned it down, so it went to Gertrude Michael instead. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this a very rare complete set of lobby cards for this movie (we have NEVER auctioned any lobby cards for this movie in all of our years of auctioning, and we have only auctioned one 8x10 still and two scripts for this title and NO other movie paper for it whatsoever! Also note that that this set of cards which includes the printed envelope this set originally came with, is one of one of a remarkable group of FIFTEEN sets that were recently discovered! All are from 1934 and 1935, and each is in remarkable condition. This is a wonderful opportunity to get complete sets in the best possible condition, and this may not occur again for quite some time (there were only two other sets in this find, "The Phantom Empire", and "Devil Dogs of the Air", and we previously auctioned those two sets by the card).
