An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Half-a-Dollar Bill, the 1924 W.S. Van Dyke silent romantic family relationship orphan melodrama ("Story by Curtis Benton"; "Adapted and Personally Supervised by Max Graf"; about a ship captain, and he finds a baby boy that has half of a dollar bill pinned to his clothing, with a note from the mother that she will return one day with the other half of the dollar; the captain adopts the boy, and after many adventures the mother returns, and the captain and her fall in love and marry!) starring "a notable cast including" Anna Q. Nilsson, William Carleton, Raymond Hatton (as "Noodles" the cook), Mitchell Lewis, and Frankie Darro (billed as "Frank Darro"; in the title role as "Half-a-Dollar Bill"). Note that this was Frankie Darro's second movie ever, and he played the title role! We bet few people in 1924 could have imagined how great of a career this younger actor would go on to have! Also note that director W.S. Van Dyke had gotten his start as an assistant on D.W. Griffith's "Intolerance" in 1916, and the following year, he was a director of many movies. He directed many westerns and other movies throughout the 1920s, and in 1928, he got his second big break when he helped Robert Flaherty direct "Shadows in the South Seas", and the following year, he was signed by MGM to make "Trader Horn", but it took two years to complete due to all the complications of location filming. The following year, he directed "Tarzan the Ape Man", and the huge success of that movie made him one of the top directors of the 1930s. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
