An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Sally of the Sawdust, the 1925 D.W. Griffith silent circus family relationship comedy ("Adapted by Forrest Halsey from a story by Dorthy Donnelly"; about a sleazy carnival sideshow performer who takes in a young girl and treats her like his daughter, but also has her helping him in his act; he learns that her grandparents are still alive, and they are wealthy, and he tries to figure out a way to reunite them where he will make money; things backfire when she is arrested, but the judge turns out to be her own grandfather, and once that is explained to the judge, he forgives her and even helps the sideshow man who was so kind to her) starring Carol Dempster (in the title role as Sally), W.C. Fields (as Professor Eustace McGargle), Alfred Lunt, Erville Alderson, Effie Shannon, and Charles Hammond. Note that this movie represents the joining together of two of the greatest legends of American cinema, director D.W. Griffith and star W.C. Fields! Also note that W.C. Fields re-made this silent movie into one of his classic sound comedies, "Poppy". NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that first release 1925 movie paper from this early W.C. Fields movie is incredibly rare. We have never sold even a single movie poster from this movie (and only a single lobby card and still) until we received this half-sheet! Also note that this poster has never been machine folded! It is not really very fragile (especially considering its age), but we feel it would be a mistake to attempt to roll it, because it might well cause it to become damaged. Therefore, we will ship it in a large flat package, unless the new owner insists on rolling it. Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has darkening, a few tears, and tiny bits of paper loss in the blank borders. Someone put tape on the back of the tears and taped bits of paper from other posters from the back to replace the tiny bits of missing paper. There is a tiny scratch in the neck of the elephant at lower left, but otherwise, the image area is in really nice condition! Certainly, anyone could choose to display this rare and historic poster exactly as it is, or they could choose to have any amount of border restoration performed, with or without backing the poster. Either way, this historic poster surely should be displayed, and it would be best displayed in a museum! Learn More about condition grades
