Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Note that director Edward Laemmle has been largely forgotten by film history, but he has a VERY interesting biography! He is the nephew of Carl Laemmle, who persuaded him to leave his electrical engineering career in 1915 and join him at his recently opened Universal Studios. He started as an assistant director, mainly under John Ford. In 1917, he went to New Guinea to produce a movie about the natives there, and was shipwrecked, and spent two years among the Kia Kia cannibals! This adventure was re-created in the movie "Shipwrecked Among Cannibals", which became the first million dollar movie for Universal Studios. Edward Laemmle went on to direct roughly 50 movies, and had many famous assistants, including William Wyler! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have only auctioned a few lobby cards for this film (and the last time was in 2004) and NO other movie paper for it whatsoever! Note that this group of stills come from a wonderful group of just-discovered stills that are from 1927 to 1929, with the majority from 1928 exactly. In addition to including a LOT of previously unseen stills (and some times from incredibly rare titles!), most of the stills have either snipes on the bottom or back, and many have some pencil writing on the back about the movie or actors. There are 72 groups of stills in this set of auctions, each in its own auction. The remaining single stills from this collection will be auctioned starting November 26th, after these stills end. After that, there will be no more stills from this wonderful collection! Also, note that we normally only photograph the front of groups of stills, but because so many of these had snipes or information on the back, we also pictured the backs of each! Condition: very good. The stills have a few minor scuffs and border defects but are otherwise in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
