An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 13 1/2" x 19 1/2" [34 x 50 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Flash Gordon, the classic 1936 Frederick Stephani science fiction (sci-fi) serial ("The first great serial spectacle!"; "The Gigantic Serial Spectacle! 13 Chapters of Strange World Adventures"; "Syndicated by King Features"; "From Alex Raymond's famous newspaper comic strip"; "13 Thrilling Chapters!") starring Buster Crabbe (in the title role "as Flash Gordon"; the 1932 Olympic swimming champion who is most famous for this role and as "Buck Rogers" in the Universal serials), Jean Rogers ("as Dale Arden"), Charles Middleton ("as Emperor Ming" [Ming the Merciless]), Priscilla Lawson ("as Aura"), Frank Shannon ("as Dr. Zarkov"), Jack 'Tiny' Lipson (billed as "John Lipson as Vultan"), Richard Alexander ("as Prince Barin"), James Pierce, Duke Ford Jr., Theodore Lorch, and Ray 'Crash' Corrigan (as the man in the really fake ape "Orangopoid" suit!). Note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit! Also note that this classic science fiction serial was also released in 1936, in a feature version (approximately 73 minutes, and condensed from all the separate chapters joined together). Universal created posters and lobby cards for all the chapters of the serial version, and also created additional posters and a set of lobby cards for the feature version. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this pressbook from the feature version of this serial. We once auctioned the serial version pressbook and it sold for $1,600! Note that this is one of a truly remarkable collection of 37 uncut pressbooks we have been consigned and are auctioning in 37 separate auctions! This is absolutely the finest collection of pressbooks we have ever auctioned at one time. Many of these are ones we have either never auctioned before or only once auctioned before, sometimes many years ago. These were collected decades ago, which was the only time that many of these could be found, and after these auctions are over it may be years (or decades!) before some of these are offered again. They ARE that rare! Note that pressbooks from the 1930s can't be found in great condition, and some of them are printed on newsprint, and are hard to find in even lesser condition. We have many images from each pressbook. We have given each an overall grade, and ask that you look at our images to get a good sense of the condition of that pressbook, because, since they have many pages, it would take forever to describe their condition in detail. However, EVERY one of these pressbooks is complete and uncut! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was folded across the middle at one time, and all the pages are separating across that fold. There are various ways of mending this, and that will be the choice of the new owner of this incredibly rare pressbook, but of course they can leave it as it is. Other then the separating pages, it is in pretty nice condition (see our images). Learn More about condition grades
