An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 17" [28 x 43 cm]; 5 pages) (Learn More) Swanee Showboat, the 1940 Ajax Pictures black African American musical stage comedy starring Nina Mae McKinney (billed as "Nina McKinney"), Dewey 'Pigmeat' Markham (billed as "Pigmeat Markham"), Mabel Lee, Scott and Whaley, and "The Sun Tan Four". Note that The Sun Tan Four was a black quartet of singers who took their name from the Sun Tan Studios (Harlem's largest talent studio). They later took in more members who became the Sun Tan Band. Scott and Whaley were an African American singing comedy duo who played in British music halls starting in 1909. Their names were Harry Clifford Scott and Edward Peter Whaley, and they were the first black performers to have the leading role in a British movie, and they went to America during World War II and appeared in a few movies, including this one. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned four lobby cards and five stills from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this pressbook! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was folded across the middle. Learn More about condition grades
