The English Patient, the 1996 Anthony Minghella (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) English/U.S. World War II (WWII) romantic melodrama ("In memory, love lives forever."; "In love, there are no boundaries."; "From the acclaimed novel by Michael Ondaatje"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Ralph Fiennes (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film), Juliette Binoche (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Willem Dafoe, Kristin Scott Thomas (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Naveen Andrews, Colin Firth, Julian Wadham, Jurgen Prochnow, Kevin Whately, Clive Merrison, and Nino Castelnuovo. Note that 20th Century Fox was originally going to finance this movie, but they wanted a more well-known actress for a role instead of Kristin Scott Thomas. When producers wouldn't budge, Fox backed out and Miramax stepped in.
