An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) The Adventures of Robin Hood, the classic 1938 Michael Curtiz & William Keighley England royalty romantic adventure thriller ("Dazzling to the eye... stirring to the heart - a great entertainment from Warner Bros."; "Based "He lives again - the world's most beloved rogue!"; On Ancient Robin Hood Legends"; "Photographed in Technicolor"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Errol Flynn (in the title role as Robin Hood), Olivia De Havilland (as Maid Marian), Basil Rathbone (as Sir Guy of Gisbourne), Claude Rains (as Prince John), Patric Knowles (as Will Scarlett), Eugene Pallette (as Friar Tuck), Alan Hale Sr. (as Little John), Melville Cooper (as the Sheriff of Nottingham), Ian Hunter (as King Richard the Lion Heart), Una O'Connor, and Herbert Mundin. Note that the mount of Maid Marian is played by none other than Trigger the Horse, before he was purchased by Roy Rogers! Finally, note that anyone who saw this movie remembers well the archery contest which comes down to Errol Flynn in disguise and Owain the Welshman, but few people know that Owain was played by the world's greatest archer, Howard Hill, and that he also did Flynn's bow and arrow stunts shown in the movie! Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this 1938 "other company" insert (and we have never auctioned a first release Warner Bros insert)! This was printed by Associated Displays Corporation which was a company based in New York City. Before it was discovered by noted poster dealer/historian Walter Reuben, collectors did not know the name of this company (and thought it to be located in the Midwest), and it is often referred to as the "other company" (and we will continue to refer to it that way, since collectors know it that way). From 1936 to roughly 1941, this company printed its own one-sheets and lobby card sets (and a very few inserts, half-sheets, three-sheets, 40x60s and stills) for three major studio movies (Warner Brothers, Paramount and United Artists, but no other studios). The items almost always feature a tiny legal disclaimer and cast credits only. The posters and lobby cards are from the original release of the movie, and almost always have completely different artwork from the regular studio release. They did this by combining elements from different film scenes onto one poster or card. Sometimes, "other company" posters have images that are the equal of those from the regular studio release posters. Note that this poster could conceivably be rolled in a tube, but because it has some tape on the back of the folds, and it would lessen its condition by folding it, we intend to send it in a large flat package, and will only send it rolled or folded if the new owner accepts responsibility if it is damaged from being rolled or folded. Please bear this in mind before placing your bid on this rare poster. Condition: very good. The poster had separation at the left and right ends of the top and bottom folds, and someone put tape on the back of three of those four areas. It also had surface paper loss in the top fold, and someone put some green paint on that surface paper loss. The poster has a pinhole in each corner and a tiny tear in the bottom border that was repaired with a small piece tape from the back. Other than the above, the poster is in pretty nice condition (see our image). Learn More about condition grades
