An Original Vintage Theatrical Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Movie Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55" [99 x 140 cm]) (Learn More) La Chartreuse de Parme (released in the U.S. as "The Charterhouse of Parma"), the 1948 Christian-Jaque French/Italian romantic religious melodrama (based on the novel by Stendhal; about a handsome young archbishop who pursues romance in spite of his vows, and he ends up killing a man and going to prison, where he romances the jailer's daughter) starring Gerard Philipe, Renee Faure, Maria Casares, Lucien Coedel, and Louis Salou. Note that this movie was slightly under three hours long, and it was first released in two parts, as "part 1" and "part 2". First release posters from any country are extremely rare! Artist: Carlantonio Longi Important Added Info: Note that this is a "country of origin" poster for part 2 of this partially Italian movie, which we have never auctioned before. The only other Italian poster we ever auctioned was a one-sheet from part 1! Note that Italian posters from the first few years after World War II are among the most rare posters there are! Apparently, there were still major paper shortages in Italy, and few posters were printed, and most were recycled. This is an extremely rare first release Italian poster from 1948. Condition: fair to good. This poster was obviously reused at a later date when the entire movie was shown at once, so someone put paint over the words under the title that translate to "part 2 of". The poster has other defects as seen in our image. Obviously, this incredibly rare poster can be rescued through proper restoration, but bear in mind its condition defects and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
