An Original 1950 (from the first release of this movie in Japan) Vintage Theatrical Folded Japanese "B2" Movie Poster (measures 20 1/4" x 28 5/8" [51 x 73 cm]) (Learn More) The Red Shoes, the classic 1948 (released in the U.S. in 1948 in a very limited release, and then in a wider release in 1949, and then in a very wide release in 1950!) Michael Powell & Emeric Pressburger English dance ballet romantic melodrama ("... Dance she did, and dance she must between her two loves."; "There has never been a motion picture like 'The Red Shoes'"; "There have never been reviews as wonderful as these..."; "Winner of three Academy Awards"; "Written, Produced and Directed by Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen) starring Anton Walbrook, Marius Goring, Moira Shearer, Robert Helpmann, Ludmilla Tcherina, and Leonide Massine ("The part of The Shoemaker created and danced by Leonide Massine"). Note that Shearer did not want to make this movie, because of how difficult it would be for her to perform the many dance scenes, and it took Powell and Pressburger more than a year to convince her to make it! Also note that this movie won Academy Awards for art direction and music scoring, and it is widely considered to be one of the movies that made the best use of three-strip Technicolor. Also note that this movie includes a scene of the dancers outdoors by tall buildings, and it was too costly to film that scene outdoors, so that scene was done with the judicious use of matte paintings! Important Added Info: Note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube.
UPDATED 12/20/2018: Note that we originally listed this poster as a 1960s re-release. However, after consulting with knowledgeable Japanese collectors, we are updating this poster to 1950 1st release. But there is still a bit of a mystery with Japanese posters for this film. This poster was distributed by N.C.C (Nippon Cinema Corporation) which some say is the 1950 first release distributor in Japan. However, we have also seen another poster distributed by Italiafilm, which some say is the 1950 first release distributor in Japan. It's possible that both are first release distributors and the posters were used in different areas of Japan, but we cannot be certain. We'll continue to research but if anyone knows more about this issue, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: fair to good. The poster has slight discoloration around the edges and other defects that can be clearly seen in our super-sized image and some of them are repaired with tape from the back and some (especially along portions of the lower edge) are touched up with marker on front. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid and please do not bid unless you can accept the defects described above, or you are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
