An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-Release (re-titled "Circus Kid" for this re-release) Theatrical Linenbacked Belgian Movie Poster (measures 11 1/4" x 19 1/4" [29 x 49 cm]) (Learn More) Peck's Bad Boy With the Circus, the 1938 Edward F. Cline juvenile circus comedy (based on the characters created by George W. Peck) starring Tommy Kelly (in the tile role as Bill Peck), Ann Gillis, Edgar Kennedy, Billy Gilbert, Benita Hume, George 'Spanky' McFarland (billed as "Spanky McFarland", in a rare solo appearance without any of his fellow Our Gang kids), and Louise Beavers. Note that there was a 1921 silent movie where Jackie Coogan played "Peck's Bad Boy", and there was a 1934 movie of the same name with Jackie Cooper in the title role. This was a sequel of sorts to that movie, with Tommy Kelly, who had starred in Tom Sawyer, taking over the title role, and he was supported by top secondary actors, but the movie did not have a lot of success, and there were no further entries. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that when this movie was released in the U.S. in 1938, Spanky was fifth billed. But when it was re-released in Belgium in the 1950s, he moved to second billing and was given a large image on the poster (see our image). Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 11 1/4" x 19 1/4" [29 x 49 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster originally had a blank top that was neatly trimmed off (this is commonly done with Belgian posters, similar to how the blank top is trimmed off of U.S. window cards). The poster also had very minor fold wear, with a few faint stains scattered in the borders and in Kelly's forehead and nose. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
