A 1951 Realart Re-release Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (measures 11" x 14") (Learn More) Frankenstein, the classic 1931 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller ("The monster that terrorized the world!"; "The Man Who Made a Monster"; "Warning! The monster is loose!"; "Based upon the Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley Story"; "Adapted by John L. Balderston from the play by Peggy Webling"; the first of the Universal "Frankenstein" movies, and regarded as one of the finer movies of any genre, in large part due to the marvelous acting of Boris Karloff, and the marvelous direction of James Whale!) starring Colin Clive (as Dr. Herbert V. Frankenstein), Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Edward Van Sloan, Fredric Kerr, Mae Clarke, Dwight Frye (extremely memorable as Fritz), and John Boles NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this card has a very unusual history. Around eight months ago, I was contacted by an individual who had found this complete set (and also a complete set from the Realart "Dracula" re-release), and he asked me to auction them. I put them up for auction, and I was contacted by long-time collector John Parnum. He told me how he had set a goal nearly 40 years before to get complete lobby card sets on all of the 1940s Universal Frankenstein titles, and that he wanted to get complete Realart sets on the 1930s titles, because (even in the 1960s) he knew that it would be too difficult and too costly to get complete original 1930s Frankenstein sets. He told me that over the past 40 years he had been able to complete his goal (mostly buying one card at a time!), but that he had the seven scene cards for the Realart Frankenstein, but was missing the title card, and had never been offered it for sale or seen it offered at auction. He told me that this was the completion of a nearly life-long dream, and that he would make every effort to buy the title card. Others recognized the rarity and desirability of this great card (and of course, being in near perfect condition was a great added plus), and the final price of the card was $8,200, and John Parnum was the buyer. He contacted me right after the auction and told me how excited he was, and how great it felt to complete his collection. Sadly, several months after this, Mr. Parnum passed away, and now he has given me his collection to auction for him. So now, this great card will find a new owner, but it is unlikely that anyone will treasure it as much as Mr. Parnum did! Condition: fine. the card was part of a complete set discovered in a closed down theater. It is in as close to perfect condition as I could imagine except for a tiny 1/4" tear in the middle of the right blank border, a faint water stain in the bottom of the right blank border, and minor creases in the bottom right blank corner. Other than the above, the card looks like it could have been printed yesterday (but I assure you it was not)! If someone wants the very best, this is it! Learn More about condition grades
