An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel "Grande" Movie Poster (1p; measures 47 1/2" x 63" [121 x 160 cm]) (Learn More) Altes Herz wird wieder jung (literally translates to "The Old Heart is Young Again"), the 1943 Erich Engel German romantic family relationship melodrama (about an old factory owner who has a lot of money, but no wife and no children, and he has three nephews who work for him and look forward to inheriting his money; one day, a young woman appears, claiming to be the old man's granddaughter, and it turns out he did have an affair many years before, and that it resulted in a son who fathered a daughter, and then his son died in World War I; at first, the old man fears she is solely after his money, but over time comes to care for her, and eventually introduces her to the rest of his family as his granddaughter!) starring Emil Jannings (he won the first Academy Award, but his thick accent limited his ability to play in sound movies, and he returned to Germany, and made several movies for the Nazis), Maria Landrock, Viktor de Kowa, Will Dohm, Elisabeth Flickenschildt, Harold Paulsen, and Roma Bahn. Note that this was Jannings last completed film. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare French poster from during World War II, a German movie released in occupied France, which we have never auctioned before! Virtually no French posters survive from during or right after World War II (mostly only some heavy stock lobby cards, and even those are rare). Apparently there were many paper shortages in France during World War II, resulting in the destruction of almost all posters from before World War II, and also from during the war, and the first few years afterwards! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had small paper loss at some crossfolds and some creases, tears, and tiny paper loss on many parts of some folds. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was roughly handled, and there are now creases in the top and bottom 3" of the poster, both in the poster and the linen. Learn More about condition grades
