Date Sold 1/1/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) Damon Runyon's Little Miss Marker, the 1934 Alexander Hall horse racing gambling romantic tough-guy-whose-heart-melts-because-of-a-little-girl melodrama ("She made these mugs believe in fairies!"; based on the story by Damon Runyon; about a gambler who leaves his young daughter with another gambler as "collateral" on his debt, and then doesn't come back to get her, and the gambler who is "stuck" with the girl grows to love her; this contained a break-out performance by Shirley Temple, who stole the movie at the age of six!) starring Adolphe Menjou (as Sorrowful Jones), Dorothy Dell, Charles Bickford, Shirley Temple, Warren Hymer, and Lynne Overman. This movie co-starred Dorothy Dell in a prominent role. This actress appeared to be on the verge of major stardom, but the following year, she was killed in a car accident, and she was just 19 (click on her name to read more about her). Note that this movie was remade as "Forty Pounds of Trouble" and under the original title of "Little Miss Marker", but without another Shirley Temple, they did not have much success. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this poster is very rare. We have only auctioned it one time, and that was 12 years ago! Note that this poster was glued to a backing board at one time. Someone removed it, but they left a great deal of residue from the backing board on the back of the poster. In the time since that happened, the top and bottom horizontal folds have returned (likely because the poster was stored rolled in a tube). Condition: fair to good. The poster had surface paper loss on the folds. It had a long irregular tear that started in Menjou's hair and went to the right border through the lady's arm and back. There was a horizontal crease below the middle horizontal fold, going through Temple's hair and the top of her forehead, and there was a 5" horizontal tear starting in the right of her hair. There were pinholes around the edges, with creases and smudges scattered throughout the poster. The poster was glued to a backing board at one time. Someone removed it, but they left a great deal of residue from the backing board on the back of the poster. In the time since that happened, the top and bottom horizontal folds have returned (likely because the poster was stored rolled in a tube). In spite of the many defects, the poster could be displayed as it is, or certainly, it could be properly restored, but bear this in mind before placing a bid on this rare poster.
