Date Sold 12/11/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Ring of Fear, the 1954 James Edward Grant & William A. Wellman 3-ring-circus crime thriller ("For the first time! Every circus wonder and Mickey Spillane thrill in CinemaScope"; "In all entertainment no excitement like it!"; "I was three bodies behind when the Circus called me in - but I'm catching up fast..."; produced by John Wayne) starring Mickey Spillane ("He's a movie star now!"), Clyde Beatty ("and His Gigantic 3-Ring Circus"), Pat O'Brien, John Bromfield, Marian Carr, and Sean McClory. Note that this was a REALLY unusual movie, with Clyde Beatty and Mickey Spillane playing themselves, only they were playing fictional versions of themselves (long story!), and there is a psychotic escapee from a mental institution, an alcoholic clown, and lots of murders and romance under the Big Top! Note that Mickey Spillane was a department store salesman in 1940 when he discovered he could sell stories for comic books, and he quickly wrote for all the major companies. After Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the Air Force and became a fighter pilot. After the war, he wrote "I, the Jury" in 19 days, and it was published in 1947, and it sold 6.5 million copies in the U.S. alone. Its hero, Mike Hammer, a hard-boiled private eye, would appear in many more novels. Spillane would write for the movies, and he even played Mike Hammer in "The Girl Hunters" in 1963!
