An Original Vintage Theatrical 7 3/4" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Headin' South, the 1918 Allan Dwan & Arthur Rosson silent Canada Mexico romantic love triangle western crime comedy ("Story by Allan Dwan"; Fairbanks is a Canadian outlaw going all the way to Mexico, and he is nicknamed "Headin' South" for that reason; when he arrives there, he joins Spanish Joe's gang of outlaws, and the two fight over the same woman; but Headin' South betrays Spanish Joe and captures his entire gang, and only then he reveals he was an undercover North West Mounted Police agent!) starring Douglas Fairbanks Sr. (in the title role as Headin' South), Frank Campeau, Katherine MacDonald, Jim Mason, and Hoot Gibson. Note that Hoot Gibson was a real life cowboy who worked in Wild West shows and as a stuntman in movies of the 1910s. During this time, he was married to Helen Gibson, who was a major silent star. In the 1920s, he became a major star of B-westerns. This was one of his early movies where he likely was cast for his stuntman abilities.
