An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Iceland, the 1942 H. Bruce Humberstone ice skating romantic military musical ("Sonja and John together again in their first film since 'Sun Valley Serenade.' Swing and sway with Sammy Kaye and his orchestra") starring Sonja Henie, John Payne, Jack Oakie, Sammy Kaye & His Orchestra, Sterling Holloway, and Fritz Feld NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that Sonja Henie had difficulties with her fans in her native Norway during World War II, because of her friendship with Adolf Hitler (her home in Norway was one of the few that was not ransacked by the Nazis, likely because of the signed portrait of Hitler that hung in her living room!). There was also a performance she gave before Hitler where she ended by skating to Hitler and giving the Nazi salute. Once the war broke out, she was forgiven by her American fans, but her Norwegian fans were less forgiving. This poster not only shows Henie with her arm up in a pose similar to that terribly unfortunate salute she gave, plus there are soldiers behind her! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tears and tiny paper loss at the crossfolds, and creases and tears on parts of the foldlines. It had pinholes, tears, and tiny paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Unfortunately, after it was paperbacked, it was roughly handled, and there is now a 3" tear and a 4" tear near the center of the top border (in both the poster and the paper backing; this could either be mended from the back, or of course, the poster could be re-backed, either linenbacked or paperbacked). Please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have further restoration performed. Learn More about condition grades
