Date Sold 10/14/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage 7 1/4" x 9" [18 x 23 cm] News Photo (Learn More) Captive Girl, the 1950 William A. Berke jungle adventure thriller ("Johnny battles to save Leopard Girl!"; "Johnny battles beast and savage to solve jungle leopard girl's mystery!"; "Johnny unleashes the jungle's wildest fury to save blonde leopard girl!"; "Wild girl leads Johnny on wild chase through death-infested jungle!"; "Based upon the famous King Features Syndicate newspaper feature") starring Johnny Weissmuller ("as Jungle Jim"), Buster Crabbe, Anita Lhoest (in the title role as the captive girl), Rick Vallin, and John Dehner. Note that this is one of the two times when the two most famous screen Tarzans (Weissmuller & Crabbe) appeared in the same movie (the other was "Swamp Fire")! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: What a daring lead actress Anita Lhoest allowed herself to be bound in chains and thrown into a swimming pool, where she would sink to the bottom (so that Buster Crabbe and Weissmuller could fight over her). We imagine it is really Lhoest and not a stunt woman, but we really can't say for sure. Also note that this news photo measures 7 1/4" x 9" [18 x 23 cm]. Note that this still was consigned to us by legendary collector/dealer Marty Davis! Marty was hired in 1972 to evaluate the entire collection of W. Ward Marsh (1893-1971), who was the film critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1919, until his retirement in 1970. In 1919 Marsh wrote his first of 23,000 movie reviews for the Plain Dealer. Marsh died less than a year after his retirement in 1970. His library, and photographic and memorabilia archives were given to the proprietor of Cleveland's finest bookstore. Marty Davis was the first person with a background in film history and collectibles to examine the archives. He worked for three to four hours a day, for six months, and his compensation was his pick of the archives. This still is from the W. Ward Marsh archives, and it was stamped on the back by Marty Davis to indicate that it came from this legendary collection. Condition: very good to fine. The still is in very nice condition!
