If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is one of the most popular film noir posters there is, due to its excellent script by James M. Cain, and its wonderful lead stars. And MGM broke away from their tradition at this time of making their one-sheets with white backgrounds, and instead used a solid black background with a "fade away" effect where Garfield's clothes blend into the background, making it very effective! The last time we auctioned an example of this poster, it sold for $3,700! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. The poster had small tears and tiny paper loss scattered down the vertical fold, with a lesser amount on the horizontal folds. It had some pinholes and tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. If I owned this great poster, I would surely immediately give it to a restorer. It can either be touched up without re-backing it, or it could be re-backed, but either way, it will display really well after proper restoration.
