Date Sold 12/12/2019Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Trolley Card (measures 20 3/4" x 27" [53 x 69 cm]) (Learn More) The Misleading Lady, the 1932 Stuart Walker mistaken identity romantic love triangle comedy (based on the play by Paul Dickey; about a woman wanting to be cast in a play as a seductive woman, and the producer does not believe she is "right for the part", and she bets him she can seduce a rugged woman-hating man in three days time, and after she does, she has to explain to him that it was just a "bet") starring Claudette Colbert, Edmund Lowe, Stuart Erwin, Robert Strange, George Meeker, and Selena Royle NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that while this trolley card advertised a showing of the above Claudette Colbert/Edmund Lowe movie at this specific San Francisco theater, what makes it most desirable to collectors today is that the bulk of the card is devoted to the stage show that the theater presented along with the movie (and obviously theatergoers at that time must have reacted similarly, because they mostly advertised the stage show, and the movie part was almost an afterthought!). The stage show was the "sizzling all-colored revue" with "30 stars from Lucky Day", and we found a newspaper ad from when this played, and the reviewer said "of equal importance [to the movie] is the stage revue, which will feature the stars and dusky beauties of the recent sensational all-colored musical comedy, 'Lucky Day,' in an elaborate, sizzling bombardment of riotous rhythm, dancing and humor"! Lucky Day was a black African American musical stage show which opened at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles in December of 1931. The cast included Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson with choreography by Harold Hecht. A knowledgeable collector believes that it was likely just the dancers from Lucky Day who performed during the show, and the collector points out that the art of the dancing girl from the poster was taken from Al Hirschfeld's 1929 trade ads for Hallelujah. Condition: good to very good. The trolley card is in pretty nice condition and is not very fragile, but it has some light stains scattered throughout. While it can be displayed as it is, this is the sort of poster that responds really well to professional restoration. It is likely that much or all of the staining can be removed through chemical means, after which the poster will look fantastic! Learn More about condition grades
