WOMAN'S FACE LC R54

Lease from Hershenson/Allen Archive

A 1954 Re-Release Vintage Movie Lobby Card (Learn More)

A Woman's Face, the 1941 George Cukor lawyer legal courtroom trial blackmail romantic crime thriller ("The Best Picture of 1941"; "They Called Her a Scarfaced She-Devil!"; "Whatever I Am, Men Made Me"; "The prize picture by the director of 'Philadelphia Story'"; "The cruelest woman on the continent!"; about a female gangster on trial for murder, and her story is told in flashbacks; she had a terrible facial scar, which led her to a life in crime, and then she had it removed by a plastic surgeon, and tried to go straight, but her former gangster friends try to bring her back into her former life) starring Joan Crawford, Melvyn Douglas, Conrad Veidt, Osa Massen, Reginald Owen, Albert Bassermann, Marjorie Main, Donald Meek, and Richard Nichols. Note that MGM normally made two different styles of one-sheets for each of their movies from the mid 1930s to the mid 1940s, and they were normally labeled style C and style D. For unknown reasons, there are four different first release one-sheets for this movie, and two of them are labeled style C and style D, and another one has "1SHT.BLOCK" stamped on the back, and the fourth one has "1SHT. SPECIAL" stamped on the back, and we are not sure why they made these two additional one-sheets. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
