The Circus Clown, the 1934 Ray Enright romantic circus screwball comedy (this is a forgotten classic!; Brown plays a famous acrobat in the circus, who has a not so talented son who wants to follow in his father's footsteps, and he tries to get a job in a circus, but the only job they will give him is cleaning up after the animals; he falls in love with a beautiful female acrobat, and he manages to get into the act, trying to impress her, with great comic results) starring Joe E. Brown (in a dual role as father and son!), Patricia Ellis, Dorothy Burgess, Don Dillaway, Gordon Westcott, and Ward Bond (in an uncredited role as a spectator!). Note that Joe E. Brown had worked as a circus acrobat before breaking into movies, and he did most of his own stunts in this movie, similar to Burt Lancaster in "Trapeze". That makes the movie much more enjoyable, rather than watching obvious stunt doubles. And Brown was great at physical comedy! Also, there is a somewhat bizarre sequence in the movie where Brown falls for a female circus performer, but it turns out it is a man in drag, which is odd foreshadowing of his role in"Some Like It Hot" 25 years later!
