An Undated (probably 1950s) Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French One-Panel Movie Poster (measures 46 3/4" x 63"; known as a 'grande' poster in France) (Learn More) Les Diaboliques (released in the U.S. as "Henri-Georges Clouzot's Diabolique" and in other English-speaking countries as "The Fiends"), the 1955 Henri-Georges Clouzot ("France's master of suspense") French romantic love triangle crime murder mystery suspense horror thriller ("Don't Reveal the Ending!"; "An Extraordinary New Motion Picture"; "Important: During the entire engagement no one will be seated in the theatre once the main feature has begun. Please observe the Time Feature Schedule carefully."; based on the novel by Pierre Boileau and Thomas Narcejac) starring Simone Signoret, Vera Clouzot, Paul Meurisse, Charles Vanel, Jean Brochard, Noel Roquevert, and Pierre Larquey. Note that Alfred Hitchcock wanted to buy the film rights to the source novel for this film, but Clouzot beat him to the punch. The authors subsequently wrote "D'Entre Les Morts", and Hitchcock filmed it as 1958's Vertigo! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a rare "country of origin" poster for this French movie! Also note that this French one-panel measures 46 3/4" x 63". Condition: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the top crossfold and creases and some tiny tears in the top quarter of the vertical foldline, across the top horizontal foldline. There were a few smudges in the solid white background areas. The restorer linenbacked the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and any restorer could easily touch them up without re-backing the poster). Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well. Learn More about condition grades
