Note that this classic novel was written in 1880, and there were numerous stage versions and an early silent version in 1907, but the definitive silent version was made in 1925 by Fred Niblo with Ramon Novarro in the leading role, and then this classic sound version.

Important Added Info: Note that this poster is from the 1969 re-release of this classic movie. Note that original 1960 posters from this movie all say "filmed in Camera 65" on them. This refers to the anamorphic 65mm lens process used to shoot the picture. 70mm prints for the 1969 re-release required an anamorphic lens, a curved screen, and had an aspect ratio of 2.76:1. For the 1969 reissue, all 70mm prints were spherical 70...meant to be projected on a flat screen with an aspect ratio of 2.20:1. This is why this poster says, "IN 70mm and FULL STEREOPHONIC SOUND - Technicolor" instead of "filmed in Camera 65". Also note that these are "international" style lobby cards (meaning they were printed in the U.S. for use in non-U.S. countries). Somewhere in the early 1960s, MGM apparently made a huge "trade" deal with European movie distributors. From the early 1960s to the late 1960s, MGM released 100 or more non-U.S. movies in the U.S. under the MGM logo (some dating back to the 1950s), and in return, they apparently gave 100 or more MGM movies (from the 1950s and early 1960s) to those European distributors to release in Europe. All of the posters from both sets of releases have a very similar type of somewhat garish, very colorful artwork, and most have an MGM logo that is different from that on other MGM movies of the same time period. None of these posters or lobby cards (except for the very first few of them) have any dates on them. This particular cards are from one of the movies that MGM sent for European release (and this is one of the movies that IS an MGM movie).
