Murnau silent romantic love triangle crime melodrama ("The outstanding achievement of the motion picture art"; "Scenario by Carl Mayer"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring George O'Brien (as "The Man"), Janet Gaynor (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; as "The Wife"), Margaret Livingston (as "The Woman From The City"), Bodil Rosing, and J. Farrell MacDonald. Note that at the very first Oscar ceremony, this movie was awarded the Oscar for "Best Picture, Unique and Artistic Production". Also, Janet Gaynor won that first Best Actress Academy Award (it was for this movie and two others she made that year). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that when this movie came out, star George O'Brien went out and purchased a scrapbook from a store, and started a scrapbook about the reactions to this movie! He wrote the word "SUNRISE" at the bottom right of the cover, and on the first interior page, he glued a large newspaper clipping of himself with rave reviews printed under it! On the following pages, he attached telegrams he received from many friends, family, and celebrities, congratulating him on the great success of the movie (including one from Mervyn LeRoy, Victor McLaglen, and others). He also attached a letter handwritten by actress Jane Novak and a typed letter from an executive at Motion Picture News. He then filled most of the rest of the scrapbook with newspaper clippings of articles about the movie and the last page has several typed sheets giving typed reviews from German newspapers, all raving about the movie. This was consigned to us by a dealer who purchased it many years ago, and he does not have a certificate of authenticity, but there is no doubt that it is surely George O'Brien's personal scrapbook! Condition: good to very good. Some of the pages of the scrapbook have detached, and all of the items are glued to the pages. We have photographed some of the pages and the cover of the scrapbook to give you a sense of its overall condition. Learn More about condition grades
