An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Key Book Still (Learn More) Male and Female, the 1919 Cecil B. DeMille silent shipwreck romantic melodrama ("The riotous luxury of London society, the rugged grandeur of a tropical island, and the glory of old Babylon, welded together in the master drama of a master producer. A drama of nature's laws - and man's"; "It's coming! A story of tremendous heart appeal, luxuriously staged. Awesome in it's [sic] splendor."; "Founded on J.M. Barrie's famous play 'The Admirable Crichton'"; about a group of upper class English men and women who are shipwrecked on a desert island along with their butler, played by Thomas Meighan, and he proves to be the only worthwhile person there, but they learn to adapt and be happy in their new setting, until they are "rescued"; there is an elaborate dream sequence where Swanson imagines Meighan as a Babylonian king and she gets her revenge on him!) starring Gloria Swanson, Thomas Meighan, Lila Lee, Theodore Roberts, and Raymond Hatton. Note that this play was written in 1903 by James M. Barrie (best remembered for creating Peter Pan), and was a great success. There was a film version in 1913, followed by a 1918 English version, and the following year by this version. It was also filmed in 1934 and 1957. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that the still is glued to a linen-like backing (we think it is highly likely this was a key book still, and that someone trimmed away the extra 1" from the left of the still, no doubt so it could be put in a frame). Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
