An Unfolded Danish Travel Poster (measures 24 1/4" x 39 1/4" [62 x 100 cm]) (Learn More) DSB (Danske Statsbaner or Danish State Railways) is the largest Danish train operating company, and the largest in Scandinavia. DSB was founded in 1885 when the state-owned companies De jysk-fynske Statsbaner and De sjaellandske Statsbaner merged. The 1930s were a decade of innovation and modernization for DSB. New railway bridges were built across the Little Belt, the Storstrom and Oddesund (eliminating the costly and time-consuming process of transfer by steam ferry) and the suburban lines in and around Copenhagen were electrified for multiple-unit operation. Artist: Aage Rasmussen Important Added Info: Note that this really cool travel poster was created in two versions (at least). They have the same image, but one has French writing and the other has English, which means they were being sent to countries that spoke those languages (which is not at all unusual for travel posters). Note that the image on the poster shows a locomotive coming directly at the viewer on train tracks, and above it there is a speedometer that shows that the train is traveling at 120 kilometers per hour, which is 75 miles per hour, which in 1937 was extremely fast! This poster is the English language version (we have previously auctioned a French language version, which sold for $470). In addition, we previously auctioned another example of this English language version (which sold for $535), and that one had slightly different printer information at the bottom. To us, this says that this wonderful poster was surely printed more than once (likely because it was so popular that they ran out of them, and then printed a second batch at a different printer). But since there is almost certainly no way of knowing which version was printed first (and since they look virtually identical except for the printer information), we feel they should surely be valued equally, but that is for the bidders to decide. Condition: very good. The poster was never folded. It has pinholes in the corners. It has two 2" tears with a small tear between them in the lower right corner, and someone put tape on the back of that area. Other than the above, and some slight darkening in the borders, the poster is in really nice condition! See our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this poster.
