Date Sold 8/8/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A Set of 2 Original Vintage Linenbacked Special Movie Posters (measure 25" x 75" [64 x 191 cm]) (Learn More) The Lone Ranger, the 1956 Stuart Heisler masked hero cowboy western ("Hi-Yo Silver!"; "Thunders to the motion picture screen!"; "America's Beloved Masked Rider and his Faithful Indian Companion, Tonto in a Blazing New Story!"; "The Lone Ranger (and Tonto too!!!)"; "It's all new! His first feature-length picture -- in WarnerColor"; "First time on the big, wide motion picture screen!"; "Surging across America's vast badland in the most challenging undercover mission of his career!"; adapted from the classic TV show that starred the same actors) starring Clayton Moore (in the title role as The Lone Ranger; "The Lone Ranger Himself"), Jay Silverheels (as the Native American Indian Tonto; "Tonto Himself"), Lyle Bettger, Bonita Granville, Perry Lopez, Beverly Washburn, and Silver (the horse) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that the owner of these posters had them professionally linenbacked, and they are ready to frame and enjoy on the new owner's wall (and they will look incredible side by side!). Note that these posters were advertised on boxes of Wheaties cereal, and you could either get one poster for 35 cents and two Wheaties box tops (or 50 cents plus three Wheaties box tops for both posters) to receive these by mail! The only writing on them is a tiny "A11640 c TLR Printed in U.S.A." on the Lone Ranger, and "A11641 c TLR Printed in U.S.A." on the Tonto. While we are sure many kids ordered these, we would think the vast majority of them were taped or tacked to walls and ended up being destroyed! In this auction, we are offering both the Lone Ranger and Tonto posters. The last time we auctioned a set of these posters, they sold for $1,900! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Both posters had some creases and tiny tears on parts of the folds, with some tiny bits of paper loss. They both had some faint stains in the bottom, with some small tears in the borders. Overall, the posters were in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the posters "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. They could certainly be displayed as they are, or one might choose to have additional restoration performed, either with or without re-backing the posters. Learn More about condition grades
