An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Six-Sheet Movie Poster (6sh; measures 81" x 81" [206 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) The White Sister, the 1933 Victor Fleming World War I (WWI) romantic lost love melodrama ("Now a New and Greater Glory in Talking Pictures!"; "From the novel by F. Marion Crawford"; about a woman whose boyfriend is reported killed in World War I, and she becomes a nun, and then it turns out he is still alive, and he asks her to give up being a nun and marry him, but she refuses, and at the climax, he is injured and dies by her side) starring Helen Hayes, Clark Gable, Lewis Stone, Louise Closser Hale, May Robson, and Edward Arnold. Note that this was a re-make of the 1922 movie of the same name starring Lillian Gish and Ronald Colman. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss on parts of some foldlines, with small creases and tiny tears on parts of others. It had smudges and scuffs scattered throughout. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was mounted onto linen and very slight restoration was performed, and blank paper was inserted in most of small areas of paper loss, without restoration of the blank paper. The poster's defects are very noticeable from close up, but not nearly as distracting from a reasonable viewing distance. Certainly, this poster could be displayed as it is, or one could choose to have a restorer perform additional restoration, either with or without re-backing the poster. While one would certainly prefer to find a better example of this poster, it is extremely likely that no other example of it exists, and it seems pretty amazing to me that it exists at all!
