An Original Vintage Theatrical Paperbacked Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) The Champ, the classic 1931 King Vidor (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) father-son family relationship boxing sports melodrama ("The stars of 'The Big House' and 'Skippy' -- now in one picture!"; "Story by Frances Marion"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; about ex-heavyweight boxing champ Wallace Beery, who lives with his son, and despite his being an alcoholic and degenerate gambler, his son loves him dearly, but he meets his son's mother, who is now rich and remarried, and he realizes his son is far better off with his mother, but the son runs away, and Beery plans to have another boxing match, so that he can support his son) starring Wallace Beery (winner of the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; he tied with Fredric March who won for Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde), Jackie Cooper, Irene Rich, Roscoe Ates, and Edward Brophy NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Not only that, but the only other poster we have ever auctioned was a one-sheet, and that was 27 years ago, when it sold for $1,493! Also note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (except somewhat heavier). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards, and lobby cards. Note that because this poster was paperbacked onto a thicker paper backing, it CAN'T be sent rolled (someone could conceivably roll it or try to do so, but we think it would have a strong chance of lessening its condition, so we will only send it in a very large flat package, unless the buyer insists, and then they would be responsible for any damage). What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had two partial extra horizontal folds above and below the regular one, with some separation and tiny bits of surface paper loss on all three folds. It had some small tears, creases, smudges, and some stains around the edges, with a tear in the top border that extended through the orange into Beery's shirt, and then into his neck and chin. There was also staining in Beery's cheek at top center. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to paperbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can clearly see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. Learn More about condition grades
