Note that this movie is remarkably similar to the 1973 Alan Bridges English movie, The Hireling, starring Robert Shaw and Sarah Miles. That movie was based on a novel by L.P. Hartley, and this movie does not in any way credit that movie, so we suppose that Alfred Uhry, who wrote the play this movie is based on, was "inspired" by that earlier movie, but that there were enough differences between the two to prevent a lawsuit. In addition, the posters for the two movies are very similar in design, but we would think that any movie about a chauffeur would tend to show him in a rear view mirror with the person he is driving, so that is not surprising!
