Date Sold 2/2/2021Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 12" x 16" [30 x 41 cm]) (Learn More) Chinatown Nights, the 1929 William A. Wellman Asia Tong War romantic crime melodrama ("From Samuel Ornitz' story Tong War"; "A Talking Romance"; about a society woman who falls in love with the white leader of an Asian gang, and she ruins her life, but he truly loves her, and he nobly sacrifices himself so she can regain her former status) starring Wallace Beery, Florence Vidor, Warner Oland (playing an evil Oriental; this is ironic since he later became famous as "Charlie Chan" in the 20th Century Fox series!), Jack McHugh and Jack Oakie. Note that it was after this movie that Florence Vidor retired, and the movie was shot as a silent, and she quit before it could have sound added, and she refused to return to do the dubbing, and it was dubbed by a different actress instead (a very similar thing happened to Louise Brooks with "The Canary Murder Case", which was made the same year by Paramount)! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this window card! Note that this window card has much light staining (see our image). Because the staining is significant, but can be hard to see from the front of the card, we also photographed the back of the card as well as the front, because sometimes the staining shows better on the back, and that will let bidders better know what restoration this card needs. We didn't do this on all the window cards we are currently auctioning, just ones where we thought seeing the back would be helpful, like this one. Also note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 12" x 16" [30 x 41 cm]. Condition: poor to fair. The card was found in the back of a frame where it had been used as a backing board for a picture (many framers in the 1920s and 1930s would use window cards for this purpose, and they would trim them to the size of the frame, not caring that they were cutting into the image!). In this case, the trimming, which was to 12" x 16", affects the right and top of the card, and you can see what is missing by looking at our image. Since most of the title, image, and credits remain, I would think many people could display this card as is, but please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects described above or are willing to pay to have them properly restored.
