Date Sold 5/3/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Roaring Twenties, the classic 1939 Raoul Walsh New York City post-World War I (WWI) Prohibition romantic love triangle organized-crime bootlegger gangster melodrama (based on the story 'The World Moves On' by Mark Hellinger; about three men who get out of the army after World War I, and two of them go into the bootlegging business, and they achieve great success, and one of them has an unrequited love for a woman!) starring James Cagney, Priscilla Lane, Humphrey Bogart, Gladys George, Jeffrey Lynn, Frank McHugh, Paul Kelly, and Al Hill NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that we previously auctioned three other examples of this 1939 first release lobby card, and this is one of those three examples (the last one sold for $1,247)! We are also currently auctioning a different first release lobby card in a separate auction. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. Most of this card was in nice condition, but the bottom border was extremely tattered, extending well into the title area. Over twenty years ago, the person who owned this card also owned a "dead card" from this movie (one that did not show Cagney or Bogart) that was in great condition, and they extremely neatly cut off the bottom 2" of the card (just above the title, and just below the image), and they "married" the two pieces together, using tape on the back and very slight restoration paint along the join line on the front. Next to no one would notice this without looking at the back of the card, or by inspecting the front of the card very closely. The two parts of the card are both in excellent condition, with some tiny pinholes in the borders, and the card is not at all fragile or brittle, which is very common with linen Warner Bros. cards of this period. As long as you can accept this unusual restoration (which does not involve any real "restoration"!), the new owner of this card will have a wonderful card that displays fantastically on their wall!
