An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #10 (The Tug-Of-War) One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 25" x 39" [64 x 99 cm]) (Learn More) The Lost City, the 1920 E.A. Martin silent Africa jungle lost civilization fantasy action adventure serial ("A wild animal serial of continuous thrills"; "In 15 sensational episodes"; "Fifteen sensational episodes"; "The Lost City of the African Jungle"; "Story by Frederick Chapin") starring Juanita Hansen, George Chesebro, Frank Clark, Hector Dion, and Irene Wallace. Note that this was one of the earliest Warner Bros. movies. Their advertising claimed that it was actually filmed in Africa, but it was not. However, the Warner Bros. borrowed the wild animals from the Selig Zoo, and it was one of the very first movies to use actual wild animals in its filming (and also one of the first to have a beautiful white princess of a lost civilization!). It reportedly cost over $1,000,000 to produce! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have previously auctioned two one-sheets from other chapters of this serial (one sold for $3,100, and the other sold for $1,265 27 years ago!), but we have never before auctioned this chapter 10 one-sheet, which has a great completely different image from the other two! Note that this poster has been trimmed and it now measures 25" x 39" [64 x 99 cm]. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had part of its blank borders trimmed off, but only blank white paper was affected. It had extra folds by the top and bottom regular folds. It had tears and areas of paper loss along parts of several folds, with some staining, tears, and paper loss around the edges, and some stains in the title area. There was surface paper loss in the girl's dress and stains in that area extending into her arm and into the lower part of her dress, but fortunately, her face was not affected. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone backed the poster with minimal attempt at restoration (it appears they were mostly interested in keeping it from deteriorating further). If I owned this really cool poster, I would surely have it removed from the old backing and properly re-backed, after which it will display well, but please bear in mind this very rare poster's many defects and the cost of restoration before bidding on it.
