An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Gone with the Wind, the classic 1939 Victor Fleming (winner of the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Civil War era romantic melodrama epic ("The Greatest Motion Picture Ever Made!"; "In the New Screen splendor... The most magnificent picture ever!"; "David O. Selznick's production of Margaret Mitchell's story of the Old South"; "Screen play by Sidney Howard"; winner of the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Clark Gable (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; "as Rhett Butler"), Vivien Leigh (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; "and presenting Vivien Leigh as O'Hara"), Leslie Howard ("as Ashley Wilkes"), Olivia de Havilland (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film; "as Melanie"), Hattie McDaniel ("as Mammy"), Thomas Mitchell ("as Gerald O'Hara"), Butterfly McQueen (as Prissy), Ann Rutherford ("as Carreen O'Hara"), George Reeves (in his first credited movie role!), Victor Jory, Jane Darwell, Ward Bond, Ona Munson ("as Belle Watling"), Yakima Canutt, Harry Davenport ("as Dr. Meade"), Carroll Nye ("as Frank Kennedy"), Laura Hope Crews ("as Aunt Pittypat"), Alicia Rhett ("as India Wilkes"), Barbara O'Neil ("as Ellen O'Hara"), Marcella Martin (as Cathleen Calvert), Frank Coghlan Jr., Fred Crank, Rand Brooks, Cammie King Conlan, Patrick Curtis, and William Bakewell NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this classic movie opened in major cities in December 1939, and the 1939 set of lobby cards consists of a title card with credits, and the scene cards all have full art, and all eight cards have a "picture frame" artwork border around them. The 1940 set of lobby cards (which sometimes are mistakenly sold as 1939 lobby cards) have totally different borders, with color photographic images. The lobby card offered here is the title card from the 1939 lobby set, and of course, it is a "true" title card, solely with credits for the movie, but with the picture frame border design that is on the scene cards. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: good to very good. The card had pinholes in the corners and a few scattered in the image. It had paper loss in the bottom corners, caused by rough removal of the pins, with small paper loss in the bottom left corner of the picture frame. Overall, the card was in good to very good condition prior to restoration. A talented restorer repaired the corner defects through the use of gel backing, and they did somewhat minimal restoration to those areas, mostly focusing on replacing the missing paper in the bottom corners and the paper loss in the bottom left of the picture frame. The card still exactly looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all, but you can see signs of the restoration in the borders, but the card will display well on the new owner's wall (see our image).
