An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" Movie Still (Learn More) The Bride of Frankenstein, the classic 1935 James Whale Universal monster horror thriller sequel ("The Monster Demands a Mate!"; "The monster thriller"; "Who will be The Bride of Frankenstein. Who will dare?"; the second of the Universal Frankenstein movies, and the only example I am aware of where a sequel is clearly superior to the original movie!; this is James Whale's masterpiece, and almost everyone agrees it is among the finest movies ever made, regardless of genre) starring Boris Karloff (as the Frankenstein monster), Colin Clive (as Dr. Henry Frankenstein), Valerie Hobson (as the bride of Dr. Frankenstein), Elsa Lanchester (in the title role as the bride of the Frankenstein monster, and also as Mary Shelley!), Una O'Connor, Ernest Thesiger (as Dr. Pretorius), E.E. Clive, O.P. Heggie, John Carradine, Dwight Frye (as Karl), Gavin Gordon, and Neil Fitzgerald NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that Universal hired famed magazine illustrator Rolf Armstrong to paint a portrait of Boris Karloff as the Frankenstein monster, and Armstrong traveled to the set to paint it. This incredible still shows Armstrong and Karloff in full makeup admiring the finished painting. There is a descriptive snipe glued to the back of the still describing it, and note that they misspelled Rolf as "Rolph"! We don't know if this painting was ever used on a magazine cover, because we have not seen it, but we know that the painting itself still exists, and that it now resides in the Rockwell Museum in Stockbridge, Massachusetts (and as the snipe notes, it is "in striking contrast to Armstrong's usual work", which was normally sexy portraits of Hollywood's greatest actresses!).
