An Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" Movie Still (Learn More)

The Careless Age, the 1929 John Griffith Wray romantic love triangle family relationship melodrama ("based on play by John Van Druten"; about the teenage son of a prominent surgeon who has a "good" girlfriend, but who gets involved with a famous older actress, but she spurns him, and when he discovers she is having affairs with two different rich men, the young man chokes her and leaves her for dead; he returns to his father and confesses what he did, and the father says he will take the blame for killing her so that his son can have a good life, but fortunately, the actress was not dead, and the young man returns to his girlfriend, much the wiser) starring Douglas Fairbanks Jr. (in his first leading role), Loretta Young (who was a very young 16 years old when this movie was made!; in one of her first major roles, after gaining fame in "Laugh Clown Laugh" the year before), Carmel Myers, Holmes Herbert, Kenneth Thomson, and George Baxter. Note that this movie was based on a play by John Van Druten, who, 15 years later, would write the very successful play "I Remember Mama". Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. Also note that there is something very unusual about this movie. We have read the synopsis of it, and it is very clear that Loretta Young plays a very minor role, and barely appears in the movie. Yet somehow she is second billed, over the real female lead, Carmel Myers! The only thing we can imagine is that First National had signed her to a contract, and was eager to make her into a major star, and therefore, they cheated quite a bit on the billing for this movie (apparently, the people at IMDb did not have access to any original material, and they have Loretta Young billed fifth, which is how she deserved to be billed!). If anyone knows more about this movie, please e-mail us and we will post it here.
