Important Added Info: Note that the commonly accepted release date for this classic Alfred Hitchcock movie is 1940, but this original one-sheet carries a 1939 copyright date. It is not uncommon for posters to be dated in the year prior, especially if they were released at the start of the year. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had tears and areas of paper loss scattered down the vertical foldline, including ones down the center of Fontaine's face. There were also tears and some paper loss on the horizontal folds and some extra ones scattered in the middle of the poster. There was a 2" vertical tear in the right of the bottom foldline, and there were tears and areas of paper loss around the edges of the poster. Overall, the poster was in fair condition prior to linenbacking. It appears that someone either only did a portion of the restoration and then stopped, or they did a complete restoration and then the poster sustained some additional damage at a later time (see our image for exactly what state the poster is in now). If I owned this great poster, I would surely have a talented professional either perform additional restoration on it as it is (because the backing seems fine), or I would have it completely re-backed. Please bear in mind the many condition defects noted above and the possible expense of additional restoration before placing a bid on this poster. Learn More about condition grades
