He and other students representing the Latin American and Caribbean Continental Organization of Students (OCLAE) and the University Federation Pro Independencia were visiting Hanoi, Vietnam. Important Added Info: Note that this poster (which has a Spanish tagline that translates to "Martyr of the New Struggle of Independence for Puerto Rico") was created in 1968, after Mr. Varona was killed, in hopes of helping him become a martyr to help win Puerto Rico's independence from the United States. It would have been posted at rallies in Puerto Rico. Interestingly, Puerto Rico is still a possession of the United States, and it has recently begun the process of declaring bankruptcy.
