An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan's Chance, the 1932 John G. Blystone detective crime mystery thriller ("A thousand to one chance ...and Chan takes it..."; based on the novel by Earl Derr Biggers; in this entry, which was Oland's third appearance as Chan, he is attending a police convention in New York City; someone tries to kill him, and there are police detectives from both New York City and Scotland Yard trying to find the would-be killer, but of course, Chan gets there first) starring Warner Oland (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Linda Watkins, H.B. Warner, Alexander Kirkland, Marian Nixon, and Ralph Morgan. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! In the case of this movie, it literally can't be seen, because it is considered "lost", as there are likely no surviving prints of it. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that first release movie paper from this early Charlie Chan movie has always been incredibly scarce. We auctioned one style of one-sheet 28 years ago, and the other 22 years ago, but since that time, we have never auctioned any movie posters or lobby cards until we were consigned this lobby card! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: very good to fine. The card has a minor printing defect, which caused some blue and pink ink to be printed in the left and top borders. There is not much of it, and it is not very noticeable. Otherwise, the card is in really nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
