An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 10" x 30" [25 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) Mrs. Parkington, the 1944 Tay Garnett historical romantic melodrama ("The great novel of a millionaire's romance!"; "It's gusty, lusty and gorgeous!"; "Bigger with every picture and biggest of all in M-G-M's 'Mrs. Parkington'"; "Based on the novel by Louis Bromfield"; about a Nevada hotel maid who meets a rich New York financier, and they move to New York and he tries to make her a wealthy society woman, with mixed results) starring Greer Garson (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Susie Parkington), Walter Pidgeon, Edward Arnold, Agnes Moorehead (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Cecil Kellaway, Gladys Cooper, Frances Rafferty, Tom Drake, Peter Lawford, Dan Duryea, Hugh Marlowe, and "The Saint Luke's Choristers" NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned two examples of this poster, and the last one was 18 years ago. The buyer of one of those posters had it linenbacked and has now reconsigned it to us, so this is still only one of two examples we have ever auctioned! Note that for a brief time during World War II (WWII) Australia printed their daybills in a 10" x 30" format (no doubt to conserve on paper, because they had been printing daybills in a 15" x 40" size, and by going to 10" x 30", they were able to print four daybills with the same amount of paper they used to print two!). The poster is NOT trimmed! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss in the "i" of "Parkington" in the title, which was on the fold. Otherwise, it only had minor fold and border wear. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above.
