An Original Vintage Theatrical Chapter #1 (The Mystery of the Desert) Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) The Lone Defender, the 1930 Richard Thorpe canine German Shepherd dog action adventure cowboy western serial ("A Mascot Production in twelve action-crammed chapters"; "All-Talking serial in twelve stirring chapters"; "A thrilling, all-talking serial in 12 chapters"; "A stirring all-talking serial in 12 chapters"; produced by Nat Levine) starring Rin-Tin-Tin (most famous of the movie dog stars, he was Warner Bros.' #1 star in their early lean years and the earnings from his movies kept the studio in the black!), Walter Miller, June Marlowe, Buzz Barton, Joseph Swickard, Lee Shumway, and Julia Bejarano. Note that this was the first Mascot serial to be released solely in a sound version. Also, in 1934, Mascot re-edited this serial into a feature-length film of the same name, and because this 1934 "feature version" was made four years after the serial version, and because it was highly edited, we are list it as a separate entry from this serial. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this card has been "gel backed". What does that mean? It means that a talented restorer backed the card onto a gel material, and they then performed restoration to the above defects, and then removed the gel backing, and afterward the card still looks and feels like an original card (and it is!), with no backing at all. Many collectors prefer this method of restoration to paperbacking or linenbacking, because with those methods the card no longer looks like it was not backed. Gel backing can't be used with cards that have major paper loss or other major defects, but for the cards it can be used on, it is really an excellent method of restoration! Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. What IS gelbacking? Learn More Condition: very good. The card had pinholes around the edges, with a few smudges. It had tiny paper loss in the top left blank corner. Overall, the card was in very good condition prior to restoration. You can see slight signs of the restoration, but the card displays really well! Learn More about condition grades
